Fernando Paternoster was the first foreign manager of the Colombia national team. He coached Colombia in some of its first international games. Colombia played matches at the 1938 Central American and Caribbean Games. The Colombia national football team was composed mostly by all the players of the Club Juventud Bogotana (now Millonarios FC). [3]

After an unsuccessful attempt at coaching Costa Rica in 2004–2005, Pinto returned to Colombia to coach a recently promoted team Corporación Nuevo Cúcuta Deportivo which he led to win their first Colombian National Championship in their history. He was later named as the new coach of the Colombia national football team.
