An underground hospital dug out of sandstone and solid rock at Camp Joseph T. Robinson (1943) Established on 18 July 1917, the facility was originally named Camp Pike in honor of U.S. Army Brigadier General Zebulon Pike. [1] Camp construction was supervised by Major John R. The battalion originally comprised five companies: Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment (HHD) in Hazen; Company A (Admin) at Ricks Armory in Little Rock; Company B (Medical) in Lonoke with a detachment in DeWitt; Company C (Transportation) in Stuttgart with a detachment in Hazen; and Company D (Maintenance) in Perryville with a detachment at Fisher Armory in North Little Rock.
The Company is now located in White Hall, Arkansas. The 212th Signal Battalion was formerly headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, but was inactivated at the same time as the reorganization of the 39th Brigade Combat Team in 2005. Company C, 212th Signal Battalion was mobilized for Operation Desert Storm in 1990, but did not deploy to theater.
As described in the 39th Anniversary Brigade Annual, published for the brigade combat team's 39th anniversary celebration in 2006 at the headquarters at Ricks Armory, Little Rock, Arkansas, the Bowie knife has been the individual weapon of senior leaders in the unit since the reorganization of the unit in 1967.
