Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) is a form of white-matter brain injury, characterized by the necrosis (more often coagulation) of white matter near the lateral ventricles. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It can affect newborns and (less commonly) fetuses; premature infants are at the greatest risk of neonatal encephalopathy which may lead to this condition.
A CT of leukoencephalopathy. Leukoencephalopathy (leukodystrophy-like diseases) is a term that describes all of the brain white matter diseases, whether their molecular cause is known or unknown. [1]
Head CT showing periventricular white matter lesions. Leukoaraiosis is a particular abnormal change in appearance of white matter near the lateral ventricles. It is often seen in aged individuals, but sometimes in young adults. [1] [2] On MRI, leukoaraiosis changes appear as white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) in T2 FLAIR images.
Epstein–Barr virus–associated aggressive NK cell leukemia (EBV+ ANKL) is a rare NK cell malignancy that occurs most often in Asians and young to middle-aged adults. It sometimes evolves directly from other NK cell proliferative disorders such as, particularly in younger individuals, chronic active EBV infection (CAEBV). [ 1 ]
Toxic leukoencephalopathy-related damage to central nervous system (CNS) white matter, typically of the periventricular nucleus, and other structures in the brain is often bilateral and symmetric. Heroin-induced leukoencephalopathy often involves damage to cerebellar white matter, posterior cerebral white matter, posterior limb of internal ...
Periventricular means around the ventricle and may refer to: Periventricular leukomalacia , a disease characterized by the death of the white matter near the cerebral ventricles Periventricular nucleus , a composite structure of the hypothalamus
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL){now included in theCLL/SCLL type NHL} Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) Acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL), a sub-type of acute myelogenous leukemia; Chronic Idiopathic Myelofibrosis (MF) Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia (T-PLL) B-cell prolymphocytic leukemia (B-PLL)
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a rare and often fatal viral disease characterized by progressive damage (-pathy) or inflammation of the white matter (leuko-) of the brain (-encephalo-) at multiple locations (multifocal).
