Hampstead is a historic plantation house located near Tunstall, New Kent County, Virginia. It was built about 1825, as a two-story, rectangular Federal style brick dwelling with a hipped roof. The front facade features alternating window bays and pilasters and a central two-story pedimented projecting portico .
New Kent County was established in 1654, as the Virginia General Assembly with the governor's consent split York County. [3] The county's name originated because several prominent inhabitants, including William Claiborne, recently had been forced from their settlement at Kent Island, Maryland, by Lord Baltimore upon the formation of Maryland. Cedar Grove is a historic plantation house located near Providence Forge, New Kent County, Virginia. The main section was built about 1810, and is a 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story, single pile, brick structure. The frame section was added about 1916. It has a traditional one-room side-hall plan.
Cumberland is a historic farm property at 9007 Cumberland Road in central northern New Kent County, Virginia. The property, now about 131 acres (53 ha), was once the centerpiece of a much larger plantation estate. The main house has a construction history dating to the 18th century, and includes a number of interior features from that period.
Chamberlayne became a merchant in New Kent County, and then a large landowner.
