Heuchera (/ ˈ h juː k ɪ r ə / HEW-kih-rə [2] or / ˈ h ɔɪ k ə r ə / HOY-kih-rə [3]) is a genus of largely evergreen [4] perennial plants in the family Saxifragaceae. All species are native to North America except for Heuchera sichotensis , native to the Russian Far East . [ 5 ]

Heucherellas take their brilliant foliage colors from the Heuchera parents and the dark leaf patterns and cut-leaf shapes from the Tiarella parents. They are often called by their botanical name × Heucherella, but the common name in the USA is "foamy bells" because the common names of the parent plants are "coral bells", and "foam flower" respectively.
Heuchera parvifolia is a variable species, and has many proposed varieties, although these are not generally agreed upon. [1] It has ovate to circular cordate leaves that are up to about 6 centimeters in length. [2] It blooms from May to September, [3] producing a 20–75 centimeter-long panicle of whitish, yellowish, or greenish flowers. [2] [3]
Heuchera villosa is sometimes grown ornamentally, with some cultivars giving having a reddish leaf coloration. There are two described varieties, which are sometimes considered distinct species. [1] They are: Heuchera villosa var. macrorhiza - On calcareous substrates, primarily west of the Appalachian Mountains
There are also variegated varieties and some with distinct leaf veins. You can plant Heuchera as a single specimen or as a ground cover in part shade to part sun (perennial in zones 4-9).

Heuchera americana Rodgersia podophylla Micranthes merkii. Numerous attempts have been made to subdivide Saxifragoideae (Saxifragaceae s.s.). These have included dividing the family by the placentation of the ovules, as either parietal (e.g. Heuchera) or axile (e.g. Saxifraga). None of these has been supported by molecular data. [1] [7]
