KFSHRC was established in 1970 by King Faisal on land he donated for the hospital. The hospital was officially inaugurated in 1975 by King Khalid. KFSHRC began operations, initially with a capacity of 17 beds. [3] [4] The hospital established its Organ Transplant Program in 1981 when the first kidney transplant was performed at the institute.
