Frances Slocum State Park is a 1,035-acre (419 ha) Pennsylvania state park in Kingston Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in the United States.Frances Slocum Lake is a 165-acre (67 ha) man-made, horseshoe-shaped lake that is a popular fishing and boating destination.
The park has a paved looped hiking trail along the north part of the park. There is a large playground on the western side, a fishing lake near the creek, primitive restrooms, and picnic areas. The Doolittle section of the Indian Creek Trail passes through the park and features a walking bridge over the creek.
Lake Texoma is one of the largest reservoirs in the United States, the 12th-largest US Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) lake, and the largest in USACE Tulsa District. [1] Lake Texoma is formed by Denison Dam on the Red River in Bryan County, Oklahoma , and Grayson County, Texas , about 726 miles (1,168 km) upstream from the mouth of the river.
Shakamak's main attraction is its fishing. Shakamak has several outdoor recreational activities such as swimming, hiking, paddle boating, row boating, camping, fishing. The park offers rentals for cabins and campsites and is located just 3 miles (4.8 km) from Jasonville, Indiana. The park receives about 230,000 visitors annually. [1]
The main campground offers several waterfront campsites. The other campground is west of the lake and is designed for larger recreational vehicles. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has announced plans to drain the lake in the fall of 2008 in order to repair the dam and to eradicate gizzard shad which are detrimental to the fishery. Potato Creek is open year-round and supports various activities and facilities, including fishing, hiking, camping and mountain biking. Natural habitats include the 327-acre (1.3 km 2) Worster Lake, old fields, mature woodlands, restored prairies, and diverse restored wetlands. Each offers different opportunities for plant and wildlife observation.
It is in southern Johnston and northeastern Marshall Counties in the eastern part of the state, near the upper Washita arm of Lake Texoma. The refuge was established in 1946 and contains 16,464 acres (66.3 km 2 ) of protected land managed by the Fish and Wildlife Service.
