A post office called Sparta has been in operation since 1876. [4] The city's name is a transfer from Sparta, Tennessee. [5] Sparta got rail service when a subsidiary of the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway (Frisco) extended a line from Ozark, Missouri to Chadwick, Missouri in the Spring of 1883. [6]
Sparta was originally called Benton, and under the latter name was platted in 1840. [2] A post office called Sparta was established in 1841, and remained in operation until 1865. [3] The community held the county seat until about 1846. [2]
From 1922 to 1926, US 65 in Missouri was known as Route 3.US 65 originally followed Route 248 and US 160 between Branson and Springfield.Route 3 was originally planned on a shorter route between Springfield and Preston, with Route 71 on the longer alignment via Buffalo, but Route 3 was quickly shifted east, absorbing Route 71.

Route 14 is a state highway traveling through the southern part of the U.S. state of Missouri. Its western terminus is at U.S. Route 60 (US 60) in Marionville, and its eastern terminus is at US 63 on the northern edge of West Plains. Route 14 is a two-lane highway for its entire length, however, there are plans to widen Route 14 in some spots. [1]
