John B. Castleman, the "father" of the modern American Saddlebred. The "American Saddle Horse", as a horse breed, was originally devised by John Breckinridge Castleman (June 30, 1841 – May 23, 1918), a Confederate officer; and later, a United States Army brigadier general, as well as a prominent landowner and businessman in Louisville, Kentucky.
