The use of bevel gears allows the axis of the drive torque from the pedals to be turned through 90 degrees. The drive shaft then has another bevel gear near the rear wheel hub which meshes with a bevel gear on the hub where the rear sprocket would be on a conventional bike, and canceling out the first drive torque change of axis.
The advertisement for the "Trail Skeeter" Bonham created the Tote Gote to relieve the exhaustion of walking through the Utah mountains while hunting. First called the "Mechanical Goat", it was renamed to refer to its ability to "tote" (carry) deer out of the woods while climbing inclines with the skill of a mountain goat.
Hunting oscillation is a self-oscillation, usually unwanted, about an equilibrium. [1] The expression came into use in the 19th century and describes how a system "hunts" for equilibrium. [ 1 ] The expression is used to describe phenomena in such diverse fields as electronics, aviation, biology, and railway engineering.
Graph of bike lean angle vs forward speed, assuming unlimited friction between tires and ground. Cyclist riding with no hands on the handlebars. In order for a bike to turn, that is, change its direction of forward travel, the front wheel must aim approximately in the desired direction, as with any front-wheel steered vehicle.
A bike throw occurs in the final moments of a bike race, usually within the last few feet. A sprint is involved, and at the end of the sprint, the rider pushes their arms forward, stretches their back out, and attempts to move their bike as far forward as possible, getting to the finish line before their competitors. Most bikes have positive trail, though a few, such as the two-mass-skate bicycle and the Python Lowracer, have negative trail. [ 12 ] Trail is often cited as an important determinant of bicycle handling characteristics, [ 13 ] [ 14 ] and is sometimes listed in bicycle manufacturers' geometry data.
From a mechanical viewpoint, up to 99% of the mechanical energy delivered by the rider into the pedals is transmitted to the wheels (clean, lubricated new chain at 400 W), although the use of gearing mechanisms reduces this by 1–7% (clean, well-lubricated derailleurs and a straight chainline), 4–12% (chain with 3-speed hubs), or 10–20% (shaft drive with 3-speed hubs).
An all-terrain vehicle (ATV), also known as a light utility vehicle (LUV), [1] a quad bike or quad (if it has four wheels), as defined by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), is a vehicle that travels on low-pressure tires, has a seat that is straddled by the operator, and has handlebars, similar to a motorcycle. As the name ...
