The Philosopher's Stone is a compilation album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison released in 1998. The songs released on this 2-CD thirty-track album were previously unreleased outtakes from 1969 to 1988.
"Bright Side of the Road" is featured as the opening tune on the 1990 compilation album The Best of Van Morrison. Another version of it was on the collection of outtakes on the 1998 compilation album The Philosopher's Stone. A live version as performed at the festival appeared on the 2006 limited edition CD Live at Austin City Limits Festival.
This is the discography of Northern Irish singer Van Morrison. Morrison made his first recording playing saxophone on "Boozoo Hully Gully" with the International Monarchs in 1962. [ 1 ] His first recording session as lead singer/songwriter with Them was produced by Dick Rowe at Decca 's studio.
The album was remastered and reissued on 29 January 2008 with two bonus tracks; an alternative take of "Philosopher's Stone", and a new arrangement of Fats Domino's song, "Valley of Tears". [10] " Golden Autumn Day" was also used as the credits song for the 2001 and 2004 World Series .

At least two earlier recordings exist, one of which appeared on Morrison's 1998 album The Philosopher's Stone, a collection of previously unreleased tracks. The melody is based on an earlier Morrison composition, "Joe Harper Saturday Morning" (recorded for the Bang label in 1967).

Van Morrison (born George Ivan Morrison on 31 August 1945) is a Northern Irish singer-songwriter who has been a professional musician since 1960. He has won six Grammy awards and was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2003.
