According to notices received by Giant associates, as of August 23, 2009 their employment ended at Giant Markets, and most of the 1,100 employees were expected to have jobs at Weis. In May 2016, Mars announced that all 13 stores would close by July 31, 2016, with five locations being acquired by Weis Markets. The company stated that they have struggled with declining sales for several years. Mars tried to fill the remaining eight locations with other retailers. [3]

Neal Fasula joined the company in 1964 and left in 1969 to pursue a job in New York City. Gerrity's Market burnt down after Fasula left. He returned to West Scranton and, along with Joe Gerrity, opened a new meat store. A few years later, Gerrity sold his half to Fasula, who decided to keep the Gerrity's name. [1]
Ukrop's Super Markets was founded in 1937 by Joseph Ukrop. The company had 26 stores, [1] mostly in the Richmond area, as well as one store in Williamsburg, and one each in Colonial Heights, Petersburg, and Fredericksburg.
