Doncaster Royal Infirmary started life as the Doncaster Dispensary on French Gate (now Greyfriars Road) in 1792: the original two-storey building was erected at the cost of £665. The hospital administration block was extended in 1929 and pre-fabricated hut-style wards were added in 1939 in order to increase capacity. [3] The hospital joined the National Health Service in 1948. [2]
