Players are not allowed to draw by agreement. The event is a 12-player round-robin, where every player plays once against every other player on the field. Example of a round-robin tournament with 10 participants. A round-robin tournament or all-play-all tournament is a competition format in which each contestant meets every other participant, usually in turn. [1] [2] A round-robin contrasts with an elimination tournament, wherein participants are eliminated after a certain number of wins or losses.
Basic points for a tournament are awarded depending on the tournament format: Swiss-system: Top 8 (within top half of ranking), ties included. Round-robin: Top 3 with ties (with the exception of the Candidates Tournament 2024 where points are awarded to all players). Knockout: Third round or later, up to 8 players. Points are awarded as follows:
The tournament began with two groups of six teams each playing in the 12-team Opening Round. Each team played five games, in a round robin format against each other in the group. The top two teams from each group advanced to the Super Round.
The teams played each other in a round-robin format. Each ties consisted of four sets: one men's singles, one women's singles, and two doubles sets, which may include men's doubles, women's doubles, or mixed doubles, as determined by the team that won the coin toss. They got one point for each game they won in a tie.
The eight players and teams are divided into two groups of four and each play three round-robin matches against the others in their group. After the round-robin stage, the top two performers in each group advance to the semifinals in a knock-out stage. The two winners of the semifinals play a final to determine the champion.
Round-robin tournaments involving four participants are known as "quads" or "foursome". Round-robin tournaments are often used for small groups because the element of luck is reduced when every player plays everyone else. This may be a full match or a reduced format such as a penalty shootout or speed chess. If there are more than two tied competitors in a 2-competitor game, the play-off may be a round-robin or knockout tournament, as in the 1992–93 League of Ireland. Instead of a playoff, the original matches may provide the tie-breaker criteria: head-to-head
