Located off the coast of the Canary Islands is the wreck of the SS America, an ocean liner that doubled as a troop transport during WWII.
It was wrecked as the American Star at Playa de Garcey on Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands on 18 January 1994. The wreck deteriorated and completely collapsed into the sea. In 2024 it was no longer visible on the ocean surface and had become an artificial reef.
Taken in 1998 on a beach in Fuerteventura using Fujichrome slide film. I only took four photographs of this thing - With a digital SLR you would be taking hundreds! The wreck has almost been swallowed up by the sea now so it wouldn't be worth the trip over.
