Back when I was running 5ks few times a week my circulation was great, and even my cheap boots at the time with wool socks worked, although had limited ice time then. Nowadays it’s more beer and few years older and feet get chillier quicker, I’d go lighter if you can.
The way I see it for the price of a pair of Baffin or pac boots, a person can buy one pair of Bunny boots for extreme cold, and a pair of Muck like boots for everyday ice fishing. Just wanted to share my opinion on boots, along with the mast majority of over 10,000 employees who work in the oil fields of the north slope of Alaska. Tight Lines!!!!
You get used to the size of the Bunny Boots. We put on miles sometimes on the ice, and I swear by them. If you are active and move a lot, most boots will keep your feet warm. If want a great deer hunting (they are rubber) and water proof (they are rubber) and warm boot (they are very warm) boot, I still recommend the Bunny Boots.
Bunny Boots are not necessarily any better than other extreme cold weather boots in terms of insulation. In fact, some of the newer, hi-tech type materials used in boots such as Sorel's have better insulative properties than the felt based construction of Bunny Boots.

White Air Force Bunny Boot, pretty popular boot in Alaska. I like my Bunny Boots or Mickey Mouse boots. The best part about them is my feet sweet as I hike out to my location. Once I get set up I take the boots off, wipe them out and put on dry socks. Than my feet are good for the rest of the day. They do have some weight to them.
Mickey AKA Bunny boots, cant go wrong with them, always keep a persons feet warm, even a person with poor circulation. Long lasting, I have had mine for 14 years, I have two pair. Tried, tested and true, by the American military.
Read something online from Alaska last year stating that Bunny Boots were getting difficult to find because they are not in current production. Up there this is a major disaster because there are basically only 2 types of boots worn in all of Alaska, Xtratufs and Bunny Boots.
