Anaheim (/ ˈ æ n ə h aɪ m / AN-ə-hyme) is a city in northern Orange County, California, United States, part of the Greater Los Angeles area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 346,824, making it the most populous city in Orange County, the tenth-most populous city in California, and the 56th-most populous city in the United States. When Anaheim was a rural community surrounded by orange groves, the geographic center of town was at the intersection of Center Street and Los Angeles Street (now Center Street and Anaheim Blvd.) and the central business district was built around the center of town anchored by the likes of the SQR Department Store, Chung King Restaurant, and Pickwick Hotel.
West Anaheim was named in 1877 when the Southern Pacific railroad established a station west of Anaheim because the city refused to pay subsidies. [1] A post office was established at West Anaheim from 1900 to 1907 by the name of Loara. [2] Prior to 1960, newly annexed West Anaheim mostly consisted of orange groves before Disneyland opened in 1955.
