With 6.6 liters of displacement and over 500 horsepower, the Chevrolet Performance L8P is a truck motor with a C8 Corvette cam and valvetrain. When you’re working on a classic car restomod or virtually any project car, deciding what engine to go with can be an extremely difficult decision. Sure, you can go pluck yourself a junkyard engine and ...
Like many LS and LT crate engines that aren’t already part of a Connect & Cruise kit, the LS427/570 doesn’t include an engine controller with purchase. But it does require the use of Chevy Performance engine control kit 19420000. So make sure to add that to your shopping list and budget.
C3 Tech/Performance - Blueprint vs. Smeding 383 - After several months of research and with the help of this forum, I’ve narrowed down my crate engine selection to these two builders. Trying to find reliable reviews for both is tough. Both have similar performance numbers, warranty, and feature new blocks.
10) 350/265. We can’t start this list without this go-to Chevy V8. Found in everything from Camaros to ’32 Fords, the 350 is a versatile mill with tons of aftermarket parts to get the most out of it. This version is Chevrolet Performance’s most affordable block, built tougher than the original, packing 265 horses within. Next page.
The ZZ crate engines started with the ZZ, ZZ1,ZZ2,ZZ3, and the current ZZ4. Not a whole lot of difference between the basics of all the engines. The later ones have powder metal type connecting rods and the early ones have the "pink rods" which were used in the the original 70 LT-1 Corvettes.
C3 Tech/Performance - 383 stroker crate engines - recommendation needed - I would like to replace my 350 SB by a 383 stroker crate engine. Car has TH400 and 3,08 rears. Looking for good torque at 3000rpm - not so much interested in high hp-numbers.

The 86 has 1 piece rear seal, but flat tappet cam. 3. early 86 has cast iron heads, 1 piece seal, flat tappet cam. 4. late 86 has 1 piece seal, flat tappet cam, but aluminum heads (cast. iron clones) straight plugs. 5. 87 has modified combustion chamber heads, roller cam ...
Likes: 1. Crate engine Vs Rebuild L48 in A 1980. Got a 1980 L48 in nice shape but have developed engine noise. This sound is a metal ratteling sound on start up, unless I crank it till I have oil pressure. Then it only does it at about 2500- 3000 RPM and it then sounds louder. I cant really get my motor-head co-workers to agree on what the ...
I purchased and had a professional install a brand new ZZ383 GM Crate motor in my '69 Vette back in late 2004. My mechanic purchased the motor directly from the Chevy dealer, this is the version with the hypereutectic pistons, aluminum heads, roller cam etc... as seen in the GM catalog.
Just want to make sure that the OP doesn't think that buying a crate rated engine at 400 HP is 180 more HP than his stock L-82-its not. I am hoping with my rebuild of the L-82 to come right in that Net HP range-330 Net HP-100 HP over the Net rated 78 L-82 of 220 HP. Last edited by jb78L-82; 04-06-2014 at 07:31 PM.
