FWIW there is a way to test lead acid 12v batteries that are not sealed by using a battery hydrometer to test each battery cell. If after three years one of the cells is not accepting a full charge then it is time to replace the battery. If the battery is sealed then the only way to test it is to put a load test on it.

Otherwise, if the contactor is closed the DC-DC transformer will be supplying power to the 12v battery. However, as the car will tell you when you need to replace the battery I would not worry.

my original 12V battery needed replacement in Feb 2017, about 14 months after delivery I got a 12V battery warning a couple weeks ago, and today mobile service replaced the 12V battery (now out of warranty). So the second battery lasted about a month less than 4 years.
