The default is Rich text format, but you can easily change it. Open TextEdit and then its preferences.

There is not a similar functionality to Window's Run command because Mac users don't need to use the command line. Old Toad -- what I need the Run equivalent for isn't actually an application, so I don't think Spotlight will work for that, but I really appreciate your taking the time to answer my question.

Inside are folders which can be displayed with details or icons. You can drag and drop just like windows.

On my new mac mini I got today I was able to boot to internet recovery by holding the windows key + r while pressing the power button. I installed a new hard drive and didn't have a mac keyboard available. I read someones post above and took another shot at windows key + r and it worked. Reinstalling lion as I type this on my Windows machine.
They don't get installed by default, you'll have to go back to the orignal disks and install them separately. These tools contain a compiler for c++ (called gcc) and an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that is called Xcode. These tools are the Mac equivalent of the "Dev C++" tools you were told that you need.
There's no reason to let the device drain completely before charging (in fact, it's a bad idea to do that on a regular basis), and there's no need to wait until it reaches 100% before removing it from the power source. You can charge when it's at 40% and disconnect when it reaches 80%, or any other values, without hurting the phone.

A cycle count is the equivalent of a battery with zero charge being charged to 100%. In other words, if you charge the battery from 75% to 100%, that would be 1/4 cycle count.
