It was founded in 1979 and joined the International Baseball Federation in 1981 and the Baseball Federation of Asia in 1985. The CBA is responsible for organizing and promoting baseball at all levels in China, including national leagues and championships, as well as sending national teams to international competitions.
China competed in the inaugural 2006 World Baseball Classic and finished 15th in the tournament. It also competed in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, managed by Terry Collins. The 2020 Chinese Professional Baseball League season was the 31st season of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). The season was scheduled to begin on 14 March, earlier than previous seasons in order to free up time for the CPBL players to participate in the final qualifying tournament of the 2020 Summer Olympics .
