Mitchellville is a city located in Polk and Jasper counties in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 2,485 at the time of the 2020 census. [3] Mitchellville is part of the Des Moines–West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Iowa Correctional Institution for Women is located in Mitchellville.
The abandoned section became an extended Iowa 83 and CR G30 in Adair County. The two routes run east together into town. Iowa 2 splits away to cross the river near downtown and the route turns north and heads out of town. It ends at another interchange with US 61 northeast of town. From 2011 to 2013, the portion of highway north of Iowa 2 was known officially as Iowa 961, but it was not signed as such.
The route turns east onto Iowa 2 and the two highways travel together until Bloomfield. There, Iowa 2 continues east and US 63 turns north and travels through the town. North of Bloomfield, the highway does not pass through another community for the next 20 miles (32 km) when it arrives in Ottumwa.
As of the census of 2020, [7] there were 124 people, 61 households, and 32 families residing in the city. The population density was 219.7 inhabitants per square mile (84.8/km 2).
