Lake Sherwood is an unincorporated community in the Santa Monica Mountains, in Ventura County, California overlooking Lake Sherwood reservoir. It is a body contact lake (swimming, fishing, standup paddleboarding (SUP), and boating are allowed), located south of the Conejo Valley and city of Thousand Oaks , and west of Westlake Village .
Sherwood Dam, known also as Lake Sherwood Dam, [2] Alturas Dam, and Potrero Dam, is a 270-foot-long (82 m) concrete arch dam in the Santa Monica Mountains near Thousand Oaks, California. Completed in 1904, its construction led to the creation of the 165-acre (67 ha) Potrero Lake (since renamed Lake Sherwood ) [ 3 ] over the following winter.
Sherwood is supported by the Sherwood Fire Department (SFD) since 1950. Additionally, the city has formed an Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to respond in cases of natural or man-made disasters. CHI St Vincent's North Hospital is a non-profit 69 bed hospital with an emergency department that sees about 20,000 patients per year.
Situated on the edge of Sherwood Forest, Boughton Pumping Station opened in 1905 together with an associated Superintendent's house and five workers' cottages. The Pumping Station later passed into the hands of Severn Trent Water. The engine house was listed as Grade II in 1974. By 1980 it was obsolete and in need of major repair.

Lake Sherwood, originally Potrero Lake, is the oldest man-made lake in California.It was built in 1904 and is approximately 165 acres (0.67 km 2).It was changed to Lake Sherwood when the surrounding areas, used for the filming of "Robin Hood" starring Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., in 1921, became known as "Sherwood Forest" and "Maid Marian Park."
