The Montour Trail is a multi-use recreational rail trail near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was formerly the Montour Railroad . It has a mostly crushed limestone with partially asphalt surface, appropriate for bicycling , walking , running , and cross-country skiing .
Its headquarters and main yard remained in Coraopolis. The Montour at its peak ran 50 miles to Clairton with mines all along the way. The railroad ran until the 1980s, when the coal ran out and it was closed. [citation needed] Its old right of way is now part of the Montour Trail.
