In probability theory, an event is a subset of outcomes of an experiment (a subset of the sample space) to which a probability is assigned. For example, rolling an honest die produces one of six possible results. One collection of possible results corresponds to getting an odd number. Thus, the subset {1,3,5} is an element of the power set of the sample space of dice rolls. These collections are called events.
