Emmaus (/ ɛ ˈ m eɪ. ə s / em-AY-əs) is a borough in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States.As of the 2020 U.S. census, it had a population of 11,652. [3] Emmaus is located in the Lehigh Valley, the third-largest metropolitan area in Pennsylvania and 68th-largest metropolitan area in the nation.
In 1952, the cabin was purchased at a public sale by a group of preservationists who raised $35,000 to stabilize and restore the structure and its grounds. In 1963, the Borough of Emmaus assumed ownership of the property, while the Shelter House Society continues with the responsibility of maintenance and preservation.

Built in 1803, the house is a 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story, fieldstone house with a Federal side-hall plan. It was built for Jacob Ehrenhardt Jr. whose father, Jacob Ehrenhardt Sr., had been one of the founders of the town of Emmaus as a settlement of the Moravian Church in 1747.
