Reims was first called Durocortorum [9] in Latin, which is hypothesized to derive from a Gaulish name meaning "Door of Cortoro-". [10] The city later took its name from the Remi tribe [11] (Rēmi or Rhēmi). [12] The modern French name is derived from the accusative case of the latter, Rēmos. [13]
