A hip fracture is a break that occurs in the upper part of the femur (thigh bone), at the femoral neck or (rarely) the femoral head. [2] Symptoms may include pain around the hip, particularly with movement, and shortening of the leg. [2] Usually the person cannot walk. [3] A hip fracture is usually a femoral neck fracture.
The Vancouver classification is a grading system used in orthopaedics to determine management of post-operative periprosthetic femoral fractures following a hip arthroplasty. It is named for the city Vancouver, home to the University of British Columbia where the authors of the 1995 paper worked.
Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS), a form of bursitis, is inflammation of the trochanteric bursa, a part of the hip. This bursa is at the top, outer side of the femur , between the insertion of the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus muscles into the greater trochanter of the femur and the femoral shaft .

Normally the greater trochanter of the femur lies below this line, but in cases of iliac joint dislocation [1] of the hip or fracture of the neck of the femur the trochanter is felt above or in the line. [2] Though the line can be of help for diagnosis of fractures, its practical value is disputed. [3]
The greater trochanter of the femur is a large, irregular, quadrilateral eminence and a part of the skeletal system. It is directed lateral and medially and slightly posterior. In the adult it is about 2–4 cm lower than the femoral head . [ 1 ]
Operative treatment is rarely indicated and is reserved for patients with significant displacement or fractures of the bones. To prevent hip pointer, the equipment must be adequate in the sport and be well positioned and good size.
