Gabriel and Isaac Walker were born in Lancaster County, Pa., the former in 1744, the latter in 1746. The Scotch-Irish brothers emigrated to the west in 1772, and purchased two thousand acres (8 km 2) from John Henry. Gabriel located near Hays crossing, on the Pan Handle railroad, and Isaac at Walker's Mills. [4]

Between 1760 and 1790, Gabriel Walker built a log cabin about 2 miles (3 km) northwest of present-day Rennerdale; today known as the Walker-Ewing Log House, the structure still stands. In 1976, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. [8] Many Walkers have continued to live in the area up to the present day.

MD 458A is the designation for a 0.36-mile (0.58 km) section of Walker Mill Road on either side of MD 458's northern terminus near District Heights. The section northwest of MD 458 is a four-lane undivided highway; the segment northeast of the mainline that serves as its continuation is a six-lane divided highway.
The section from Carnegie to Walkers Mill, Pennsylvania, retains its rails and is owned by the Pittsburgh and Ohio Central Railroad, however, it has not seen a train since early 2014, and it will likely be removed to become part of the Panhandle Trail.
