William Rea Holway (April 29, 1893 – April 23, 1981), commonly known as W. R. Holway, was an American civil engineer who became prominent in Oklahoma.He is best known for his work on major water supply projects for the city of Tulsa, and on the Pensacola Dam at Grand Lake o' the Cherokees.
1986 - Passage of an omnibus water bill, the Water Resources Development Act of 1986 which was the first omnibus bill in 16 years, authorizes numerous projects for Tulsa District and heralds a new era of local/federal cost-sharing partnership. [5]
The city built a pumping plant in 1904 to deliver water from the Arkansas River to consumers via a standpipe atop Standpipe Hill, north of downtown Tulsa. The standpipe has since been demolished. However, the source soon proved unsatisfactory for domestic use, because the water was high in silt, salt and gypsum.
The Mother's Day flood of 1970 in Tulsa caused $163,000 in damages ($1.28 million in 2023 dollars) to the rapidly developing areas along Mingo and Joe creeks in the eastern part of the city. Still, recovery consisted of repairing or replacing flooded structures in their original locations.
Lake Yahola is a reservoir in Tulsa, Oklahoma. [3] The reservoir was completed in 1924. Its primary purpose is to store raw water for treatment and distribution. This city-owned, 2-billion-US-gallon (7,600,000 m 3), concrete-lined lake is an integral part of the Tulsa water supply, and receives water by pipeline from Lake Spavinaw.
In 1952, Lake Eucha in Delaware County, Oklahoma, was created by completion of the Eucha dam on Spavinaw Creek. [1] The nearest town is Jay, Oklahoma. [2] This lake is owned by the City of Tulsa, Oklahoma and functions as additional storage and as a buffer for Lake Spavinaw, which is the principal municipal water source for Tulsa.

Holmes Peak, north of the city, is the tallest point in the Tulsa Metro area at 1,360 ft (415 m) [42] According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 186.8 square miles (484 km 2), of which 182.6 square miles (473 km 2) is land and 4.2 square miles (11 km 2) (2.24%) is water.
