Shelby County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 11,746. [1] The county seat is Harlan. [2] Its name is in honor of Isaac Shelby, the first Governor of Kentucky.

The Shelby County Courthouse in Harlan, Iowa, United States, was built in 1892. It was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 as a part of the County Courthouses in Iowa Thematic Resource.
