Adams Gardens was founded in 1972 and incorporated. The Harlingen water district and post office both served the community. Its population was 200 from 1978 through 2000. The community is a mobile home park that can accommodate up to 230 homes. Adams Gardens has a board of directors with nine members and a yearly-elected president. [2]
The Lay Family Garden (formally known as the Lay Ornamental Garden) is a 2.2-acre (0.89 ha) garden filled with hundreds of perennials and woody plants. A garden at the south end of the property, it is a reinterpretation of the Lay Ornamental Garden, a gift from the family of Mimi Lay Hodges and Herman Lay.
