On old Unix, Shebang is not compatible with BOM. Nowadays, text files are generally written in UTF-8, and often with BOM. This makes some files, those with both BOM and shebang not to work on old Unix. But scripts with both BOM and shebang can still be launched indicating the interpreter to use on the command line.
