The Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women was founded in 1971 to govern collegiate women's athletics and to administer national championships.During its existence, the AIAW and its predecessor, the Division for Girls' and Women's Sports (DGWS), recognized via these championships the teams and individuals who excelled at the highest level of women's collegiate competition.

The 1986 NCAA Division I field hockey tournament was the sixth annual single-elimination tournament hosted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the national champion of women's collegiate field hockey among its Division I members in the United States, the culmination of the 1986 NCAA Division I field hockey season.
Immaculata University is a private Roman Catholic university in East Whiteland Township, Pennsylvania. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] It was founded by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary . This turf field, installed in 2006, is used for football, lacrosse, track, soccer, field hockey and physical education class when weather permits. A new track is also available. Ashley Sessa made her debut for the U.S. U-21 Junior National Field Hockey Team team in 2021, winning a bronze medal at the Junior Pan American Championship in Santiago, Chile. [9] [10] Sessa also was a member of the U.S. U-21 Junior National Field Hockey Team which placed 8th in the 2021 Junior World Cup in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
Immaculata played Queens College on February 22, 1975, in front of 11,969 spectators. The arena played Helen Reddy 's I Am Woman as the fans entered the arena. The game was a one-point game late in the game, when a foul and a technical were called against Queens but the wrong Immaculata player went to the line.
