It was renamed Hyde Park later that decade. [5] [6] A new station building, 80 feet (24 m) long and 20 feet (6.1 m) wide, opened on August 5, 1872. [7] Construction of a third track between Mount Hope and Hyde Park took place in 1881–82, completing triple-tracking of the line between Boston and Readville. [8]
The station has entrances and parking lots at both levels off Hyde Park Avenue on the east side, and a ground-level entrance and parking lot off Milton Street on the west side. Readville station is accessible; all platforms (except one of the pair on the connector track) have a 1-car length ("mini-high") high-level platform.

The 1873-built Forest Hills station was similar to this 1872-built structure at Hyde Park. The Boston and Providence Railroad (B&P) was chartered on June 22, 1831, to build a rail line between its two namesake cities. Construction began in late 1832, and the B&P opened from Park Square, Boston to Canton in 1834.
Engraving of the Hyde Park Water Works, 1882. In 1853, Paul Cornell, a real estate speculator and cousin of Cornell University founder Ezra Cornell, purchased 300 acres (1.2 km 2) of land [9] between 51st and 55th streets along the shore of Lake Michigan, [10] with the idea of attracting other Chicago businessmen and their families to the area. [9]
Despite Hyde Park changing its name to "New Hyde Park" in March 1871 in order to avoid confusion with another Hyde Park in Dutchess County, the LIRR kept the original name of the station until September 1904. The 1870-built station was located along the eastbound tracks with an open wooden shelter shed along the westbound tracks.
