Reviewing Mixtape Pluto for Uproxx, Aaron Williams deemed the song one of the "standouts" for "fans who love wounded Future". [4] Christopher R. Weingarten called it "a classic hip-hop tale of succumbing to temptations of success, but is told in that indelible Future way."
The song received generally mixed reviews from critics. Robin Murray of Clash described it as "stumbling" and that it "seems formless". [1] Gary Suarez of Vulture commented "The utterly incoherent 'Plutoski' sounds like a rough demo, with a vocal take that seems like it was recorded from the bottom of a double cup."

Future released his debut studio album, Pluto (2012), to success—the album peaked at number eight on the US Billboard 200. Future then released Pluto’s follow-up in 2014, titled Honest.
