Sonnette is an unincorporated community in west central Powder River County, Montana, United States. The community is situated near the headwaters of Pumpkin Creek, just west of the Custer National Forest. It lies along local roads northwest of the town of Broadus, the county seat of Powder River County. [2]
Precipitation runoff from the mountain's west slope drains to the Nowood River via Tensleep Creek, whereas the east slope drains to Powder River via Clear Creek. The Loaf Mountain Overlook Observation Site (44° 14.965' N, 106° 56.484' W) along the Cloud Peak Skyway ( U.S. Route 16 ) provides a place to stop and view this mountain. [ 6 ]
The Powder River/Reynolds Battlefield is located on private land near the Powder River about 34 miles (55 km) southwest of present-day Broadus. The battlefield is accessible by Montana Secondary Highway 391, (Moorhead Road) on the west side of the Powder River.
