The International 14 is an International racing sailboat, crewed by two sailors.The class was established in 1928. [1] [2]The boat is a developmental sailing class and so the design rules and the boats themselves have changed dramatically over time to keep the International 14 at the leading edge of sailing technology.
The boat has a draft of 2.83 ft (0.86 m) with the daggerboard extended and 0.31 ft (0.094 m) with it retracted, allowing beaching or ground transportation on a trailer or car roof rack. [ 1 ] The design uses sail sleeves, with the hard-coated aluminum spars inserted into the sleeves to rig the boat.
Early boats, wooden and GRP, used buoyancy bags fixed under the benches and thwarts for internal buoyancy but nowadays foam reinforced plastic boats have built in buoyancy tanks improving stiffness and removing much of the maintenance associated with air-filled bags.
