Randolph Field ISD is one of three school districts in the state whose boundaries are coterminous with a military installation; the other two (also in the San Antonio area) are Lackland ISD and Fort Sam Houston ISD. Founded in 1932, it was the first school district in Texas to serve a military installation.
SCUC ISD was formed by merges of existing schools and school systems during the twentieth century. Early local schools included Cibolo Valley school [7] and Lower Valley School [8] In 1916, Cibolo voters approved a bond election to build a new high school. [7] The Schertz and Cibolo School Districts combined in the 1930s.
Northside ISD serves a portion of the city of San Antonio as well as the cities of Grey Forest, Leon Valley, Shavano Park, Helotes, and the unincorporated communities of Cross Mountain, Leon Springs, and Scenic Oaks. In November 2023, The Edgewood ISD Board of Trustees voted 5:1 to close E.T Wrenn Middle School and Winston Intermediate School of Excellence in Fall 2024. This decision was a cost savings move by the district due to years of declining enrollment. [5]
