Peter Michael Blau (February 7, 1918 – March 12, 2002) was an American sociologist and theorist.Born in Vienna, Austria, he immigrated to the United States in 1939.He completed his PhD doctoral thesis with Robert K. The positive reciprocity norm is a common social expectation in which a person who helps another person can expect positive feedback whether in the form of a gift, a compliment, a loan, a job reference, etc. In social psychology, positive reciprocity refers to responding to a positive action with another positive action (rewarding kind actions).
But in fact any stable social structure in which there is a division of labor will involve a system of reciprocal exchanges of this generalized sort, as a way of sustaining social norms. All of these patterns of reciprocity, along with related ideas such as gratitude, have been central to social and political philosophy from Plato onward. [5]
