The Sloan Fellows program is a mid-career masters' degree in general management supported by the Alfred Sloan Foundation. Three of the world's leading business schools offer Sloan Fellows programs: the MIT Sloan School of Management , the Stanford Graduate School of Business , and London Business School .
The Sloan Research Fellowship is awarded annually by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to "provide support and recognition to early-career scientists and scholars". Beginning in 1955, Fellowships were initially awarded in physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
An independent committee of distinguished scientists in each field selects the fellows based upon their research accomplishments, creativity, and potential to become leaders in their chosen field. Since the inaugural class of 1955, 6,144 fellowships have been awarded, with faculty from the top ten universities representing over 35% of all fellows.

Strickland was born on 27 May 1959, in Guelph, Ontario, Canada to Edith J. (née Ranney), an English teacher, [7] and Lloyd Strickland, an electrical engineer. [1] After graduating from Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute, she decided to attend McMaster University because its engineering physics program included lasers and electro-optics, areas of particular interest to her. [7]
