The film is loosely inspired by the English movie Face of a Fugitive, a 1959 movie. Vast changes were made in the script of Roti. Later, Roti was remade in Telugu as Neram Nadi Kadu Akalidi, in 1976 starring N.T. Rama Rao. [3] It was also remade in Bangladesh as Ek mutho bhat (One fist rice) starring Zafar Iqbal, Babita in 1976.

In Tamil cinema, Rameshwar composed four songs for the Tamil film Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal (2020) and also handled the music for 3:33 (2021) and Jothi (2022).
The film received positive reviews in both Telugu and Tamil languages and it was one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of the year, earning ₹ 1.15 billion globally. Her performance as a micro artist who runs a NGO and takes revenge for the murder of her lover earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress .
