GPGC No.1 ATD college was established in 1944 in a rented building on the Mansehra Road, Abbottabad. After independence, it was shifted to the center of the city in the Araya School. In 1954 the Chief Minister of the N-W.F.P (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) Abdul Qayyum Khan inaugurated the present building at the link road Abbottabad. [5] [6]

The college started 4 years BS program in Physics in 2011. In 2012, BS programs was extended to disciplines such as Computer Science , Mathematics , Chemistry and Economics . The college building is spread over an area of 35 Kanals with labs, classes, library, playgrounds and green lawns.
The college was established on 22 June 1945 under Basant Singh Asumal College of Commerce & Economics, and was inaugurated by Rao Bahadur Seth Shivrattan G. Mohatta. The college was taken under the supervision of the Government of Sindh in 1948 after the establishment of Pakistan. The current building of the college was constructed in 1967. [4]
