The Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim, also known as the esocs, is a church denomination in Nigeria that was founded by Moses Orimolade Tunolase in 1925. Orimolade received considerable media attention when he allegedly healed a girl, Christina Abiodun Akinsowon, from a long-term trance in which she could neither speak nor hear.
Moses Orimolade Tunolase was born 1879 into the royal family of Ayibiri in Okorun district of the Yoruba town of Ikare-Akoko in the Ondo State of Nigeria. Orimolade unlike most babies could walk from birth, but his father was ashamed of this and took his son to an herbalist which caused him to loose the use of his legs .
The Holy Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church is an Aladura church originating from Nigeria. It is one of the first African initiated churches established back in 1925 with its founder known to be Baba Aladura St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase.
It was founded by Christiana Abiodun Emanuel as a split from the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim. [1] The society is one of the Aladura churches. [2] It has been claimed that the Cherubim and Seraphim Society is a case of syncretism between Christianity and African traditional religion. [2] Its headquarters is in Lagos, Nigeria. [3]

In 1929, the Cherubim and Seraphim underwent its first schism, with Emanuel founding the Cherubim and Seraphim Society and Orimolade founding the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim. The split arose from disputes within the group over the role of female leadership. [4] Emanuel demanded to be recognised as co-founder of the church.
