I just ordered a custom jig stick for hog Perch and am now considering a reel for it. Been thinking of swaying from spinning gear and trying a new inline.
I've always used spinning reels while ice fishing. I've heard a lot about inline reels the last few years. My understanding is that they cut down on line twist. After sight fishing Boji the last few years I need to find a way to reduce my line twist. What other advantages do inline reels have on spinning reels? What is their drag like? Thanks.
The leader actually connects to the main line by two interlocking loops and for ice fishing does not need to pass through the eyes. These sections are perfect length for fishing shallow water, under 10', but it would be easy to tie on a tippit section of flouro if additional length is needed.

I'm a panfish guy and restrict my fishing depth to 30' (C&R safe depths), and usually under 20'. I've been using 3lb Pline fluroclare for several years with good results. I buy in bulk, and fill the spool just like soft water spinning rods. I want to try Clam Frost which is significantly more expensive.
I have one heritage Laker that is about 5 years old and I love it. It has a plastic reel. I was in a local sporting goods store and noticed they had a decent deal going on Lakers and was going to buy some, however the reel is different than what my old Laker has.

I started ice fishing in 1985 at the age of 10. I was hooked immediately! My journey as an avid ice fisherman has brought me back full circle, and for the better I must say. Lately, I am just fed up with $169 jigging rod reel combos and $49 dollar tip ups! Easily an ice angler can rack up $1500 on sonar, shelter, heater, auger and tackle!
