The Art Gallery, as it is known today, was once the private home of Dr. Hypolite Salles, the first resident dentist in Lafayette, Louisiana. He also owned the Doctor's Museum, located next door to the Art Gallery in Acadian Village. Just as it is set up today, is the way the doctor practiced in the late 1890s.

Acadiana (/ ɑː r ˈ k eɪ d i ə n ə /; French and Louisiana French: L'Acadiane or Acadiane), also known as Cajun Country (Louisiana French: Pays Cadien), is the official name given to the French Louisiana region that has historically contained much of the state's Francophone population.
Established in 1865 as the Weekly Advertiser, it purchased the local alternative paper, The Times of Acadiana in 1998.
