[6] [7] [8] Sometime prior to 1915 students who lived across the Manatee River in Palmetto started attending the school and it became known as Manatee County High School. Sometime during the 1920s it became known as Bradenton High School as a high school was created in Palmetto. [9]
[7] [8] Class 6A was created for the 2012–2013 school year and Class 7A for the 2016–2017 school year to accommodate growth in local schools. [ citation needed ] In late 2023, GHSA announced that they would be doing away with the "7A" classification for the 2024-2026 cycle.
In November 1957, Samuel R. Neel Jr became the college's first president, and the first classes were held on September 2, 1958, in what was formerly a senior high school; enrollment in the first term was 502 students. The college began administering classes in its own facilities in 1959, where the Bradenton campus stands today. [4]

Kennedy has been a teacher of Social Studies and other subjects at YouthBuild Public Charter School in Washington, DC, the Pendleton School at IMG Academies and Manatee High School. Recently, prior to becoming a School Board Member, Kennedy was an 11th and 12th grade teacher of U.S. History, Economics and Government at Manatee High School. [3]
