San Francisco de Conchos is one of the 67 municipalities of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico. [1] The municipal seat lies at San Francisco de Conchos. The municipality covers an area of 1,169.1 km². As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 2,983, [2] up from 2,669 as of 2005. [3]
The name was also given to the inhabitants along its banks, the Conchos Indians. More than 4,000 people from various indigenous communities were at different times brought to live at the Mission San Francisco de Conchos. In 1685, a Spanish presidio was founded at San Francisco de Conchos, in response to the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. [1]
