According to the media reports, the flood caused by the release of approximately 6.61 lakh cusecs of water from the Birpur Barrage of the Koshi river is one of the most disastrous in the history of floods in Bihar. Local residents said that they had seen this type of large amount of water 56 years ago in the Koshi river. [3]
As of 14 August 2019, 61 people had been killed and 15 people were missing due to flood-related incidents across 22 districts of the state as per the data released by Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC). The government announced the flood relief compensation of Rs 15,000 to each affected family in cities and Rs 10,000 in villages.

Many roads and bridges were damaged or submerged by the flood water, making them impassable for vehicles and pedestrians.
