La Crescenta-Montrose (pronunciation ⓘ) is an unincorporated area in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The community is bordered by Glendale to the south and west, La Cañada Flintridge to the east, and Angeles National Forest to the north. [ 3 ]
The Montrose Chemical Corporation of California was a chemical corporation that was the largest producer of the insecticide DDT in the United States from 1947 until it stopped production in 1982. [1] The president of Montrose was Pincus Rothberg before 1968, then Samuel Rotrosen thereafter.
Montrose, in addition to dumping DDT, also dumped sulfuric acid, which was a byproduct of the DDT manufacturing process. The acid was transported to the dump sites on barges operated by California Salvage Company. [4] The Montrose Corporation site, consisting of 13 acres (5.3 ha), is now an EPA Superfund site.
